Tough Times For UDTA PUNJAB
- Alia Bhatt, Ban, Diljit Dosanjh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shahid Kaoor, Udta Punjab,
Udta Punjab’ is an upcoming crime based film directed by Abhishek Chaubey and produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor under the banner of Balaji Motion Pictures. The story of Udta Punjab revolves around four characters; Tommy Singh (Shahid Kapor), Kumari Pinky (Alia Bhatt), Dr. Preet Sahan (Kareena Kapoor Khan), Sartaj Singh (Diljit Dosanjh).
The film was supposed to release on 17th of June 2016, initially The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) after watching the movie agreed to give it an ‘A’ certificate and asked for about 40 cuts in the movie, but rumors say now they have banned the film. After it’s thrilling trailer was out most of the crowds couldn’t stop cheering about it, but the abuse of drugs shown in Punjab infuriated some.
The censor board says that Udta Punjab contains a lot of ‘unwanted swearing’. It’s also said that the film had shown consumption of drugs, which will not be accepted. There was a discussion on this statement. The public favoured that the movie is based on drug abuse hence, there will be a bit of consumption shown. If the main theme of the film is removed. The irrelevant decisions that the censor board makes are opposed by most of the directors in the film industry like giving U/A certificate to Jungle Book because it may turn out to be violent for the kids and then the editing of the kissing scene in Spectre.
However the chairperson of the CBFC, Pahlaj Nihalani said “The Examining Committee had a few reservations and couldn’t come to a consensus on the film, because of which they suggested that the makers take the film to the Revising Committee. However, the makers decided to move to the Tribunal instead, which is absolutely their call. Our decisions at the CBFC are not based on what a certain political group has to say about a movie. There is no ban from our end. We aren’t authorized to ban a movie; we can pass it or reject it”. All that we can deduce from this statement of his is that Udta Punjab will not be banned. Yes, there will be modifications and edits in the movie but hopefully no ban.
This will probably make the ‘Udta Punjab’ fans happy again.
