The College Couture – Komal Pandey

Komal Pandey is one of the newest fashion bloggers on the scene, and she’s already making waves with her ‘casual yet glamourous’ initiative – The College Couture.

Komal tells us, “Fashion has always been the only constant in my life.” During all these years, fashion which she defines through her clothing and shoes, has pretty much remained constant.

“So, as superficial as it may sound, I would choose clothes over a lot of things”, she said.

When asked her how she manages her blog?

“I come from a middle-class background where I cannot really afford to keep swapping my dad’s credit card every other day. So my blog is more about affordable fashion where I tell girls how to look beautiful and fashionable within that limited pocket money.”

Recently, she took time out from updating her blog, OOTD, to give us some insight on her style, what trends she loves, and who inspires her wardrobe! Keep reading to know more about the blogger at a personal level.

According to you what is the best fashion trend which you like to carry?

“As a blogger writing about fashion, beauty and makeup, I make sure I bring something new for my followers and readers at the same time. More than that, I love experimenting. For two years I did have a particular sense of style. I had a very feminine and delicate sense of style. But then slowly and steadily I started breaking all my boundaries. I have mentioned this a lot of times on the blog that I would never wear jeans, pants, t-shirts or anything that did not have a feminine touch to it. I was a prude in fashion. But then my love for fashion finally made me overcome all my inhibitions and now I can proudly tell everyone that I am versatile and I love trying new trends and there’s nothing that I won’t try and form an opinion on. I make sure I try it and then pass a judgement about it. Personally though, I LOVE chalking out new looks by layering and mix-matching.”

What’s the story behind your blog’s title?

“It was my boyfriend who suggested the name, the biggest support system I have. I don’t know why he came up with this one, but I know why I liked his idea and went on to name my blog ‘The College Couture’. I loved it because everything for me started in college. All my new beginnings took place in college. My love for fashion was taken to another tangent in college.”

How would you describe your style?

In one word? Versatile.”

Who inspires your wardrobe and why?

Women walking on the streets are the most stylish women in this world. I keep a special check on the fashionistas walking on the streets and have taken a lot of inspiration from them.”

What are some of your favourite blogs and why?

“My favourite blogs have to be Republic of Chic, BIG hair LOUD mouth, loveandotherbugs and In Style Custody.”

Any advice for anyone who wants to start her/his own blog?

“You have to be very patient. And that can be for quite a long time. Don’t get frustrated, things will fall into place eventually, and if you really love it, don’t think twice, just do it.”

What are the best aspects of running your own blog? What are the hardest?

“The best part is obviously when the blog is made live and I see so many comments and likes flowing in. It keeps me motivated! The hardest aspect is taking out time to find a photographer and then stealing time to shoot the outfit in between your busy schedule, it can test your patience badly.”

What are your favourite places to shop? Are there any trends that you have been inspired by this season?

I love street shopping from Janpath and Sarojni Nagar. I love the idea of online shopping, my entire wardrobe is filled of online stuff. Not really fond of brands, maybe cause they are super expensive.”

“My favourite trend that has made a huge comeback this season is 90’s trend. There’s nothing about the trend I haven’t tried and I am crazy about it.”

What clothing items will you say is timeless?

“Denim, lace, leather jackets, crop tops are timeless. They were, they are and they will be.”

What trend from the past will you wish would make a comeback?

“Mostly trends from 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Moreover, anything related to fashion never goes out of style or trend. It might take a leave, but ultimately it does come back at some time. I wear whatever appeals to me, irrespective of the fact whether it lies in the pond of trending styles or not. Fashion to me is infinite.”

What do you do when you’re not blogging?

I am working or studying.”
