Azhar ?? Glory Gone In Vain

Arjuna Award Winner (1986) Mohammad Azharuddin aka Azhar is back through Bollywood. The much known cricketer who also served as the captain of the Indian cricket team during 1990s is the subject of the new movie “Azhar”. The biopic stars Emraan Hashmi as Azhar and is scheduled to be released on the 13th of May, 2016.

Mohammad Azharuddin, born on the 8th of February 1963 in Hyderabad, Telangana State, started off with his career at the age of 21. His batting was awe-inspiring and also brought him immense fame as soon as he made his debut with three consecutive centuries in his first Tests. He had an outstanding career where he scored 22 centuries in all in test cricket. His highest score in test cricket has been 199 against Sri Lanka and was also titled as the ‘Wisden Cricketer of the Year’ in 1991. Moreover, he has been a successful captain winning about 90 ODIs.

But his fame suffered a severe blow when he was accused and found guilty of match fixing in 2000 and thus was banned by BCCI for life. However, in 2006 BCCI lifted the ban on him and also honored him in a ceremony during the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy. Besides this, he was also elected as a Member of Parliament on the ticket of Indian National Congress.

Directed by Tony D’Souza, the movie Azhar stars Nargis Fakhri as Sangeeta Bijlani, Prachi Desai as Naureen, Huma Qureshi as Jwala Dutta and Lara Dutta as lawyer besides Emraan Hashmi as Azhar himself. The film is produced by Balaji Motion Pictures, Sony Pictures Network and Indiana Films Limited. Written by Rajat Aroraa, the movie is enriched with Armaan Malik and Pritam’s music.

 

Both the story and the actors put forward the thought that this might be a promising movie which would not only benefit the actors or the legendry player but would also quench the thirst of a lot cricket lovers who might have wanted to see Azhar shooting sixes in the air once again.
